You are Loved

we celebrate mental health awareness week this year I thought of sharing my thoughts on the topic. Coming from India, a forever developing, socially distraught society at the brink of chaos mental health has a lot of stigmas associated with it. In Indian Culture and as far as I know, it can extend it to most Asian cultures mental struggles are viewed as a sign of weakness. I can quote two recent incidents, the employee suicides at Facebook and the Qualcomm amongst a lot more that may go unreported or unnoticed.

Travel Essentials

I know most of you love to travel so do I. I don’t get as  much vacation time as  I would like because of my hectic work schedule but when I do I make sure to make the best of it. This post is about travel gear, things you absolutely need to have anytime you step outside the house. These are basic essentials , nothing too fancy. This is the list of my go-to items to carry in a purse, backpack and carry-on.

How to Stay Pretty When You’re 35000FT In The Air

1. Keep Dehydration at Bay I can’t stress this enough but you gotta stay hydrated. Make sure you keep a water bottle filled at all times and keep sipping. Stay away from alcohol and the need to indulge. Dehydration will cost you and is key in staying pretty. Water is what keeps your skin supple, your hair bright and shinny and full of energy. 2. Silk Scarf,  Neck Pillow, Eye Mask Check Check Check Maintaining a good posture is so important to avoid body pain and sore muscles after landing. You may notice that your hair gets dry and frizzy after the fligth and one  way to avoid it is to use a silk scarf on your hair to keep friction and static checked. Using a neck pillow will help you stay cozy and eye mask will ensure a dark peaceful sleep at all times in the flight.Do read my post on jetlag for more on sleep during the flight, linked right here.  3.Moisturize  Every few hours make sure you moisturize your skin, preferrably with a paraben and sulphate free body butter or lotion. You can make some at home , read my post on homemade cosmetics for the reciepe. […]

Home Spa

Cosmetic industry is so unregulated, there are unproven claims for expensive skin creams, toners, serus, oils that make your skin radiant, ageless and supple. It surprises me why we spend so much money on store bought cosmetics when our pantry is filled with everything we need for perfect skin and hair. Flawless skin is a gift and you can work towards having a better qualty skin.

Letting Go of Our Ego

Letting go of our ego is an exercise to finding fulfillment, peace, and calmness in our lives. Ego is an identity we create for ourselves.its a self-image we have created to help survive the harsh realities of day to day life. Ego is comparing our positive attributes to someone’s worst attributes and the other way around. We have gotten so busy attaching labels to everything, marking everything in the world that we have forgotten who we are, why we are here on this planet earth and what’s our life’s purpose. We complain all the time, we are so unsatisfied with almost everything around us that we fail to enjoy what we have. Ego makes us believe that we are not enough or that we don’t have enough. Ego is behind our eyes and our knees, manifests itself in different kinds of behavior. Online selfies, using social media for gratification and approval. Addressing the symptom not the root cause has become our daily part of our life. Let’s deep dive into how we can keep our ego under control. Performing selfless deeds and adding value not just to us but also those around us. Being in the present and truly grateful […]

And when temps cool down, just add booties and tights for the ultimate ready-for-fall outfit. Cool Style Inspiration for the Fall , travel tips. Supercharging Productivity

“Pretend your time is worth $1,000/hr. Would you spend five of them doing extra work for free? Would you waste one on being angry?” –Niklas Göke Most of us have clue what we are doing with our time and yet we complain we dont have enough of it.The main culprit is busyness and lack of focus.Treat time as a resource similar to money and you will get more productive. Time unlike money cant be earned making it even more precious. What should we do ? How can I get more productive ? Here is the thing folks power concentrates around us, being consistent in your routine and sticking to it no matter what is the only way you are going to be productive.Consistency helps create psychological spikes and ticking items off your daily to do checklist provides a dopamine kick to the brain. A technique I have personally found very effective is timeblocking my days into chunks. If I can get in the zone for 3 hrs, stay uninterrupted I feel I get a lot done. You can’t keep waiting for inspiration to strike or when you have a good mood. You have to be in the moment and […]

The Ultimate Guide to Visiting China

Shanghai and Beijing are two of China’s most famous cities, and it’s not hard to see why. Each offer some incredible sights to see, but there’s so much more to China outside of these places.Xi’an, Hangzhou, and Suzhou are three cities. I travelled to Suzhou for work and it was one of the amazng trips I have been on. If you are going to China but don’t speak Mandarin don’t worry you can still have a great time and not get lost. P.S I did get lost once for a few hours, thanks to DiDi(equivalent of Uber in China). Before your trip Setup your phone with apps: Google offline translate with Chinese dictionary downloaded , DiDi, offline maps,Alipay,WeChat(optional) Carry cash, AMEX, VISA most international cards just won’t work and it save you a lot of pain. I will recommend carrying around $2000CNY for a decent 3 week long trip, unless you plan to splurge If you are vegetarian pack alternate sources of food, dry fruits, rice cakes, nut butters, smoothie mixes, noodles Carry a windbreaker, gloves and comfortable shoes  A good backpack will save you from a lot of trouble if you are like me and enjoy exploring a city […]

On being a Millennial

Hello , let me introduce you to myself. I am a millennial.A millennial is anyone born between 1980 to 1995. Usually called lazy, entitled and hard to work with by the older generation. There is some serious backlash we receive being a millennial. I get it with every generation the gap keeps on widening.Every generation finds the next one more and more hard to deal with. Although its a tad bit unfair to assume that if you are a millennial you would be lazy.Agreed a lot of us have good education, in debt from student loans and trudging through the hardships in life. We are hooked on to our cellphones and social media is our life. Some of us are very hardworking. We enjoy open cultures and collaboration at work.We don’t distinguish work and play.We believe in extended workplaces at work.We enjoy unconventional experiences at work.   In an economy which is soon to be mostly made by millennials may be could go a bit easy on them. After all its the baby boomers who made the generation Y who they are.Got to take some credit for it.Yes the Generation Y is tough to deal with in the workplace. They come late to work and leave early. They […]

How to Pick a Smartphone

It’s been some time since I wrote my first two posts on how to buy a smartphone.A lot of new phones have come in the market since then.Quite a few new features introduced and your needs changed as well. There are things in the market you didn’t even know you needed. That’s the beauty of capitalism. In case you have missed them I will link them down below.Previous post1 and post2 I suggest you go through them first to get comfortable with the basics of the shopping guide, what features suit you and what don’t. I don’t have any personal recommendation for a phone, it totally depends on what you like. Also I am not working with any of the Phone Manufacturers to be inclined towards a certain brand or kind of phone.   New Features that have been recently added to smartphones include, 3D touch, Fingerprint to unlock phones /make downloads/payments ( my favourite feature, trust me it saves a hell lot of time and is convenient ) , High End Cameras , Larger Batteries  with Quick Charge 3.0 supported and on and on.I have listed them for you, so make a pick and move ahead. I have a […]

A Memorable Trip to the Capital of India – New Delhi

Delhi is a land of so many flavours. There are so many places for street shopping and uncountable number of handicraft shops all over the place. Above I am wearing an embroidered white kurta with a Handloom Patterned Indian jacket panel work. I got this while thrift shopping in Central Delhi, Janpath.I had been meaning to write this post for quite some time but for some reason I kept forgetting.I have been to Delhi quite a few times as its near my home and the city and the capital of India is exquisite and so colourful. It has a lot to offer when  it comes to food, fashion and sightseeing.     So one of my close friends from college is getting married in Delhi.Besides the wedding I also had some sightseeing and food safari on my mind.So here is how I organised my travel essentials and planned my time.Key to a happy trip is effective planning and packing light. So all I have is a backpack and a small trolley as luggage.I would usually limit to a rucksack but then because there is a Indian engagement it can never be minimalistic.I also took a print out of the Delhi Metro for ease of travel […]

Lucknow Travel Diaries

Lucknow town with simplicity and immense history. The town is popular all across India as “Tehszeeb Ka shehar” meaning city with culture. The first banner you would see on landing in Lucknow would read “”Muskurayae Janab Aap Lucknow Mae Hain” which roughly translates to smile because you are in Lucknow now.Sure you will find the streets quite dirty , covered in paan (beetle leaf) stains and potholes, to which I saw welcome to Lucknow. The only issues a tourist would face here , especially females is the constant gawking from total strangers, eve teasing and catcalling on the streets. It wont be surprising if total strangers grope you or slap you inappropriately on busy roads. To that I would say I apologise for the state of affairs in this city. We have unfortunate government here and it justifies such creepy acts by saying “boys will be boys”.   “Muskurayae Janab Aap Lucknow Mae Hain”   Carry a pepper spray and a stun gun if you’re coming from outside of India and you will be pretty safe. Avoid public transport and refrain from talking to the insanely talkative and nosy cab drivers . Amidst all this evil, its proximity to […]

6 Absolutely Random Things I Bought

Guide to a French Wardrobe

French closet is all about practical essentails only, what I like most about it is the focus on less. A minimalist wardrobe can be challenging and difficult at first. Once you start practicing it trust me it gets better. The perks ? you can get by with less ? travel light ? own more versatile clothing ? When you let go of things you don’t wear or need you feel liberated. Clutter in your closet adds clutter in your life. If you haven’t worn it in the last 6 months time to throw or donate it.   In this post we will start with the essential 5 pieces and then look back at each category.
