Cabo San Lucas sits at the southern tip of Mexico’s gorgeous Baja California peninsula, where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez. With postcard-worthy beaches, a vibrant local culture, and endless opportunities for adventure, it was the perfect destination for my much-needed getaway. I had an amazing week exploring Cabo, and wanted to share my itinerary and recommendations for this paradise by the sea.
Nestled at the tip of the Baja California Peninsula, Cabo San Lucas beckons with its mesmerizing blend of sun, sea, and vibrant culture. As I embarked on my journey to this Mexican gem, I couldn’t help but feel the palpable excitement that comes with discovering a destination known for its stunning landscapes and lively atmosphere.
Cabo, with its iconic arch-shaped rock formations, provided a breathtaking backdrop as I strolled along the pristine beaches. The golden sands and azure waters created a postcard-perfect scene, inviting me to bask in the warmth of the sun or indulge in water activities such as snorkeling and paddleboarding.
The heart of Cabo pulses with energy, especially along the bustling Marina. Lined with vibrant shops, restaurants, and lively bars, the Marina is a hub of activity day and night. I found myself immersed in the lively ambiance, enjoying fresh seafood at waterfront eateries and sipping on exotic cocktails as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the city.
Venturing beyond the bustling scenes, I explored the rich history and charm of San José del Cabo, the sister city to Cabo San Lucas. Cobblestone streets led me through art galleries, charming boutiques, and historic landmarks. The Old Town exuded a laid-back vibe, offering a stark contrast to the vibrant energy of the Marina.
Whether savoring local flavors, embracing the lively nightlife, or simply taking in the natural beauty that surrounds this Mexican paradise, Cabo left an indelible mark on my travel memories. The allure of its landscapes, coupled with the warmth of its people, makes Cabo a must-visit destination for those seeking a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure in the lap of coastal luxury.
Where to Stay
I stayed at the beachfront Pueblo Bonito Pacifica resort and spa, which was breathtaking, not to mention convenient for exploring downtown Cabo. The resort features an elegant adults-only atmosphere with ocean views, a full-service spa, multiple swimming pools, and several onsite restaurants.
Suggested Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive + Explore Downtown
After checking into my resort, I headed straight to downtown Cabo (also called the marina district) to wander around, shop, and enjoy dinner while taking in views of the harbor. Can’t miss downtown spots: the main town square, the marina walkway with its many restaurants, and the nearby flea market for souvenirs.
Day 2: Glass-Bottom Boat Tour + Beach Day
My second day started on the waves, as I took a glass-bottom boat cruise to El Arco (Cabo’s iconic natural rock arch) along with views of sea lions and other marine life. We then headed to Lover’s Beach for swimming and relaxing on soft white sand. After working on my tan under the Baja sun, I cooled off with margaritas and fresh guacamole in a beachside cantina.
Day 3: Day Trip to Todos Santos
This small town an hour up the coast offered a nice change of pace from the resort scene. I poked around galleries and shops featuring local arts and crafts, then relaxed at a café over breakfast burritos and strong coffee. On my way back I stopped at Cerritos Beach for a walk, enjoying the smaller crowds and crashing waves.
Day 4: Whale Watching
One of the perks of visiting Cabo in January is the front-row view of migrating gray whales. I booked a morning whale watching trip and couldn’t believe how close these magnificent creatures came to our boat! In the afternoon I returned to my resort for beach time and potent margaritas at the swim-up bar.
Day 5: Horseriding + Farewell Dinner
My trip’s grand finale was a private horseriding excursion along the beach and up into the surrounding desert hills for breathtaking views of sea and land. After working up an appetite, I got glammed up for a final fabulous dinner downtown filled with grilled lobster, flaming desserts, and live music. ¡Salud to Cabo!
Top Restaurants + Bars
From tacos to tostadas, ceviches to churros, Cabo offers delicious dining from morning ‘til night. These were my favorites spots to grab a bite and a drink:

- La Lupita Taco Shop: Fresh, no-frills tacos at local prices
- Baja Brewing Company: Craft beer, live music, and American-style apps and entrées
