When that autumnal chill hits the air, nothing satisfies a sweet craving quite like a soft, chewy sugar cookie with luscious frosting. These pumpkin spiced sugar cookies are guaranteed to be your new favorite fall treat! The cookies themselves are delicately spiced with cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves for a warmth reminiscent of pumpkin pie. Brown sugar gives them incredible chew and a slight caramel flavor that pairs perfectly with the browned butter frosting.
To make the browned butter frosting, the trick is cooking down butter until it turns a fragrant, nutty brown before mixing it into a rich vanilla frosting. This adds an incredible depth of flavor. Smooth, fudgy swirls of this frosting over pumpkiny cookies is sheer heaven.
These cookies would be right at home on a Thanksgiving dessert table or for a fall-themed bake sale. Their bright orange tint from pumpkin puree looks festive on any holiday cookie tray. For Halloween, use spooky-themed cookie cutters and decorate with candy corn or spider web designs.
